Benefits Of Getting The COVID-19 Vaccine

by Dylan Owens

COVID-19 has had a crippling effect on the daily routines people were used to before its emergence. Entire populations were put into lockdowns to curb its spread, severely damaging economies globally. Governments and pharmaceutical companies mobilized numerous resources to develop a vaccine as quickly as possible to prevent further disruption to their citizens' lives. By January 2021, several vaccines were available to the public that effectively triggered an internal immune response against the disease. However, vaccine uptake has not been as swift as expected, which should not be the case. Here are some of the reasons to consider getting COVID-19 vaccination:

Expertly Development of the Vaccine

The COVID-19 vaccine was developed less than a year after the disease was discovered. The fast manner in which the vaccine was developed could fuel some mistrust in the vaccine. Nevertheless, the vaccines have been proficiently developed and thoroughly tested by the relevant authorities and determined to be viable and effective. Scientists universally accept the processes used in their development to be best practices. Furthermore, COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered to hundreds of millions of people globally with considerable success.

Side Effects are Temporary

After the COVID-19 vaccination, people have experienced wide-ranging side effects from the jab. Commonly cited side effects include headaches, muscle and joint pain, fever, nausea, and fatigue. The side effects are temporary and a typical sign the body is learning to identify COVID-19 and defend against the virus. The belief side effects are a sign of sickness is false since the vaccines do not contain live coronavirus. On the other hand, contracting COVID-19 can cause severe illness, with symptoms lasting months after infection. Thus, it is advisable to get vaccinated.

 Vaccination Offers Greater Protection

A COVID-19 vaccination is better suited to fight future infections than relying solely on natural immunity. The body develops natural immunity after contracting the disease and battling the illness. Though natural immunity is attainable, it carries some risk. For example, it requires a first infection whose severity is unpredictable and can result in death. Furthermore, the immunity attained might not last as long as one expects and relies on factors like severity of infection and age. Conversely, COVID-19 vaccine action is predictable, thus nullifying the risks and offering guaranteed and more extended protection.

A Return to Normalcy and Communal Responsibility

Everyone is surrounded by people who are particularly susceptible to the effects of COVID-19. That includes the elderly and individuals with chronic diseases like diabetes, kidney failure, and heart conditions. Thus, getting a COVID-19 vaccination not only protects you but those who are vulnerable as well. Getting vaccinated also limits the virus' ability to mutate and produce more variants, ascertaining why everyone should be vaccinated.
