Strange Cold Treatments That Might Just Work

by Dylan Owens

Are you so tired of taking OTC cold medicine and not feeling like you really got any relief at all? The trouble is, a lot of people build up a resistance to certain medications, especially those that they take often. People with colds who constantly use the same cold medicine will eventually find that the medicine is no longer as effective as it once was. So, what can you do besides switch things up and take different brands and different kinds of cold medicines? Well, the following are a few of the more unusual cold treatments people have tried, and which have some efficacy as cold treatments without unpleasant side effects.

Super-Spicy Food or Hot Chiles

Chiles and chili peppers contain capsaicin. Besides immediately clearing your sinuses and making you tear up from their spiciness, chiles and chili peppers are able to make you feel happier and less sick. That is because the capsaicin kicks your endorphins into high gear, and endorphins (as everyone knows!) are the happy, feel-good chemicals in your brain. So, eat a spicy dish, order it a little hotter than you typically eat it, and watch your sinuses clear and your smile return!

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used to treat everything from sciatica to toothaches. In your case, the acupuncturist would place the needles in your face, around your nose, cheeks, and forehead. This tends to block pain receptors in your brain, which then translates to a lack of discomfort and that swollen head and swollen nose feeling you get with colds and allergies. If you have tried everything else, you have really nothing to lose by trying acupuncture.

Steam Heat/Time in a Sauna

Steam is a well-known cure for chest congestion/croup. It has been used for centuries to treat this particular problem. Steam also helps clear your sinuses, and you can sweat out the cold germs faster without doing a thing but sitting. If you belong to an athletic club or gym that has a sauna, spend about twenty minutes a day sweating it out in the sauna, or until the cold has definitely left you. If nothing else, you will definitely feel good after getting on a good sweat without exercise.

Hot Herbal Teas

If you have a sore throat from coughing, hot herbal teas can help. In fact, there are plenty of herbal teas designed just for treating cold symptoms. You can find them at a natural health and healing store.

About Me

Restoring My Complexion

A few years ago, I began experiencing red, itchy patches on my eyelids and forehead. I began applying moisturizer to my face at this time. Unfortunately, it didn’t help my condition. My trusted physician informed me I might be suffering from the skin disorder psoriasis. This caring individual prescribed a medicated cream for me. Thankfully, the cream soothed my itchy, inflamed skin. If you have an unexplained, skin condition that isn’t responding to home remedies, make visiting your doctor soon a priority. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common types of skin conditions people seek professional treatment for. Enjoy!
