Heartburn Wreaking Havoc On Your Pregnancy? 4 Steps To Take To Alleviate The Discomfort

by Dylan Owens

If you're pregnant, you have a lot of things to look forward to; swollen ankles, constipation, and heartburn. If you've got heartburn, it can really wreak havoc on the way you feel. First, it can make things unbearable during the day. Second, the discomfort can wake you up from a sound sleep. Either way, it's going to make you downright uncomfortable. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to alleviate the problem. If pregnancy heartburn's got you down, here are four steps you can take to get some relief.

Change the Way You Eat

If you're used to eating three large meals a day, it's time to change the way you eat. During pregnancy, large meals can cause stomach distress – especially during the last trimester. That's because the baby is pressing up against your stomach, leaving less room for food. You can help avoid heartburn by switching to smaller meals throughout the day. This will allow your stomach to digest the food you eat slowly.

Switch Gears For A Few Meals

If you're having a problem digesting your food, leading to increased heartburn, it might be time to try a more liquid diet. When heartburn starts bothering you, switch to protein drinks or smoothies for a couple of meals. For instance, instead of eating a full meal at lunch, have a yogurt or protein shake instead. These foods will provide you with the nutrients you need, and will give your stomach a break so it can battle the heartburn.

Avoid Bedtime Eating

If you're used to having a light snack – or not-so-light snack – before bedtime, you could be encouraging those middle-of-the-night heartburn attacks. Once you go to bed, your digestion slows down, which means the food you ate before bedtime will sit inside your stomach longer. That lingering will allow stomach acids to build up, which will increase the heartburn you'll experience. To prevent late-night heartburn, eliminate your bedtime snacks. For best results, you should stop eating at least a couple of hours before you head to bed each night.

Talk to Your Doctor

If heartburn becomes a problem, such as the pain becomes unbearable or it interferes with your ability to eat, you should talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor will be able to help you create a diet plan that will eliminate the heartburn. They'll also be able to determine if you have an underlying medical condition that's causing the increased heartburn symptoms.

Restoring My Complexion

A few years ago, I began experiencing red, itchy patches on my eyelids and forehead. I began applying moisturizer to my face at this time. Unfortunately, it didn’t help my condition. My trusted physician informed me I might be suffering from the skin disorder psoriasis. This caring individual prescribed a medicated cream for me. Thankfully, the cream soothed my itchy, inflamed skin. If you have an unexplained, skin condition that isn’t responding to home remedies, make visiting your doctor soon a priority. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common types of skin conditions people seek professional treatment for. Enjoy!
