Extra First Aid Supplies And Equipment You Should Keep In Your Restaurant

by Dylan Owens

If you are a restaurant owner, you need to be concerned about the health and safety of your employees and also of any customers. A restaurant is not as safe a place as many people believe. You should take stock of all the first aid equipment and supplies on a regular basis to make sure you will have everything you need and it is in working condition should a situation arise. Here are a few things that are not included in a regular first aid kit that you may want to keep around.

Automated External Defibrillator

The AED is a machine used to shock a heart back into a regular beating pattern. You should make sure that there is someone on the schedule that has been trained to properly use the device. Any time an employee or customer has a heart attack or requires CPR due to an accident, the survival rate of the patient decreases by 10 percent for every minute the heart beat is not regulated.

CPR Dummy

Even if you make sure that a certain percentage of your employees are CPR certified, having a training dummy on hand will keep everyone in practice. The dummy can also be used by anyone who is taking the classes online to become certified. The more people who are able to perform CPR the better.

Respiratory Masks

Sometimes, chemicals get mixed on accident that can cause toxic fumes. This may be something as simple as mixing bleach with dish detergent to do the dishes in the kitchen. You may also have smoke issues if the ventilation system is not working properly. While the best solution is to make everyone clear the area where there are fumes, someone may have to stay behind for a short time to get the clean air flowing and clear out the bad fumes. Cooking devices, such as ovens, deep fryers, or stoves may need supervision until you are sure no fumes, fires or gasses are in the area. This means someone may be in the bad fumes for a while. Having respiratory masks ensures that anyone who must stay behind will be safe.

Keeping everyone safe, or providing the supplies necessary to do so, can be an insurance requirement, and it may help prevent a legal issue if someone does get hurt. Of course, the most important reason to be prepared for medical emergencies is simply to help anyone who is in need of it. You could be saving a life. My trusted physician informed me I might be suffering from the skin disorder psoriasis. This caring individual prescribed a medicated cream for me. Thankfully, the cream soothed my itchy, inflamed skin. If you have an unexplained, skin condition that isn’t responding to home remedies, make visiting your doctor soon a priority.
